Rebecca Smith:

I spent a month in Grand Goave, Haiti, working on an independent research project on “Modern Haitian Education” while staying at Lifeline Christian Mission. I’m a Junior International Relations and French major at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama and have previously traveled independently to China and Honduras.
When I decided to come to Haiti, I searched on the Internet for a stable, decent, and effective mission. I admire the work that Lifeline is doing in Haiti and have been extremely impressed with the quality and worthiness of their services.
I’ve had the pleasure of being involved in clinic, the nutrition programs, clothing pantry, building four Homes for Haiti, visiting the churches at Grand Goave, Laregal and Vieux Cayes, and many other things as part of three work teams that came while I was there.
In addition, I was able to complete almost a dozen interviews of teachers, directors, and supervisors of public and private primary and secondary schools. I made many friends and had plenty of opportunity to practice my French and learn some Creole.
I had the extreme pleasure of staying for four days at the Lifeline Children’s Home in Port-au-Prince. The facilities there are so good for the kids and Nene and Martine give them the parental care and love that will make their spirits grow strong. I’ve made so many friends here that I can’t imagine never coming back. I will hope and pray for them constantly. A pi ta.
