Brothers thank you very much for believing in the work in El Salvador, my family and I are very happy to work with Lifeline Christian Mission; thanks to all directors, managers, friends, brothers and Churches in the United States for their support and prayers.  Your belief in me has strengthened us every day.

Jose sent us this update on the churches in El Salvador:

Hello brothers;

The church in El Salvador shares the grief of our brothers in Haiti.  This week we are fasting and prayer for the difficult situation in Haiti.  We continue praying for the brother Bob and Sister Gretchen and all the brothers team are working hard for our Haitian brothers.  The Bible says in Philippians 4:13 - I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me.  Our prayer will be with you always, I love you in Christ Jesus.

God Bless you

Last Sunday we had the graduation of our second promotion in 2009 for the Bible Institute.  The graduates were 21 in total.  There were three intern graduates: Antonio, Marvin and Mauritius.  18 local leaders also graduated.  Attendance at church this Sunday's graduation was from 285 - 315 people.  Brother Antonio was the highest academic index of the Institute.  Two years ago, at the first graduation, our attendance was 115 people; if we compare with this year's, the attendance has tripled this years.

Update from Jose regarding the newly constructed chapel at Santa Tecla:

I had not sent the report of the construction of the church because for 5 days I could not sleep well because a child of the church who is the son of one of the founding families of the  Santa Tecla church was very ill.  He died yesterday, and unfortunately we buried today. His name was Alex, I loved so much to him, he was a big friend of my son he was

13 years old, I ask you to pray so much by the family him.

  • Last week, the Rector of the University of La Paz in Panama sent me an email and she called me two days ago to inform me that I'm nominated among a group of outstanding students to receive an Honorary Doctorate in and cause. She told me that the results will early next year, this PhD will be delivered in 2009. For me just being nominated for this PhD is a blessing, God knows if I receive it or not.

May 31, 2008

Hello from warm, humid and overcast Grand Goave, Haiti.  Five staff members arrived safely on Wednesday without delays. Praise God.  As I sit here in Mission House #2 in Haiti we can see the sun rise and hear the roosters and the delightful noises of Haiti coming awake! What a blessing from God.

Heavy rains and hurricane weather have struck Central America.  We've had no reports of loss or damage in our ministries in Honduras or El Salvador and we are in touch with them regularly, almost every day.

A MAJOR NEED here at Lifeline:  Contributions really dropped off in May (early summer slump) and we are struggling to make ends meet. Would you pray about this for us and if you can help in some way, please do?

El Salvador News:

  • Thanks to the efforts of many people in Springfield, MO, including Greg Stephenson, a very nice used bus was donated and then Darwyn Sanchez and Antonio Orellana drove the bus to El Salvador from Texas.  It's a great gift and we did not have to pay for it thanks to many generous donors. HOWEVER, the cost to transport it through Mexico, and to El Salvador is just at about $5000 and we are wondering if there is anyone out there who would be willing to contribute to offset these expenses!  Jose', in El Salvador says the church people are elated over the bus and it has been a struggle getting it there and getting it through customs.  But we praise God for paving the way.

  • Jose's mother is very ill and in the hospital and needs our prayers.  He's trying to go there June 15 but how fast the bus gets out of customs will make the difference.  He has to work on the bus release.

  • The churches are thriving in El Salvador and there were more people baptized in April and May.  Praise God for saved souls!

May 2008
  • Pray for the churches there as we began our 4th year. An anniversary celebration and rally brought out over 300 persons and several were baptized and many recommitted to Christ.
  • Pray for Jose' Rodriguez as he will be working to get the bus into El Salvador without a problems. It has been approved but that does not preclude delays and people attempting to interfere.
  • Jose and Rosa have not yet found a new home.
  • Bob and Gretchen want to lead a small team to El Salvador in late September and hope to hold clinic again. This will require about a week-long stay and if you are interested contact Gretchen@Lifeline.org for more details

April 2008

  • Jose writes and reports awesome news. (see below for picture and details from Jose) They celebrated the third anniversary of the church during an anniversary rally last week and had over 300 in attendance at the auditorium.

  • Jose' also is under some attack as he had to struggle to get his visa renewed to live in El Salvador (he is from Panama) and the bureaucracy and increased cost gave him a lot of stress, although he deals well with it, by God's grace. Also the owner of the condo they rent sold it and they haven't found a new place to live yet. Then his mother got very ill and had to be hospitalized (she is in Panama) and you may recall his grandmother, whom he was exceptionally close to died earlier this winter. So you can see that there is attack going on. All these things happening at once can be used by the devil to distract us from the main focus. Pray for Jose, his wife Rosa, Christopher their son and the other staff members to remain firm and to have strength from Christ.

  • Jose and the team and churches are very excited about the bus coming to them. (see Honduras news) Pray there will be no hang ups getting it there. We've done all the right work according to the laws and our legal advisor there but we all know how things can go wrong in this situation. Pray for "clear sailing" with the bus. The churches need it desperately.

We had our third anniversary as Church and Mission in El Salvador.

  • The attendance was 300 people together (Children and adults), it is
a pity that the camera is not working very well and I could not get good
    pictures.

  • 10 people received to Jesus Christ as their personal savior.

  • Leaders and students at the Bible Institute did a great job for this
    anniversary was a great success.

  • I made some changes in the image of the church, I take as a
reference the name of the church in the United States (Christian Church)

  • All the church and teamwork we committed ourselves to new goals for
    next year.

  • More than 150 people participated the supper of the Lord .

Three years of many blessings.  Thanks you very much to Lifeline Christian Mission and The Christian Church in USA.  It is an honor to work for God and for you.

God Bless you,
In Christ Jesus
Jose

February 2008

  • Jose Rodriguez's grandmother died yesterday morning in Panama, his home country; he was very sad as he lived with her a lot as a child growing up.  Pray for him to have peace and comfort and to find the ability to go there for the funeral

  • Bob's visit to ES was very rewarding and productive last week and we continue to be encourage by the outstanding staff and their ministries.

  • Eight baptisms at Chalchuapa on February 17!  Praise God!

November 2007

These are the pictures of the special meeting with the churches last Sunday and the special program (called Lifeline in the Youth and Children) with the 8 teams of the Christian Football league (soccer).  We had 250 adult and 120 Children in this special program. it is an average of  370 people. Hello Christian Friends,

  • Last Sunday there were two specials activities:
    a) The Santa Tecla Christian Church and Chalchuapa Christian Church were together in a special service on Sunday in the morning and later we continued with a program for young people and children, there were in these activities 130 adults and 112 Children. In total 242 people participated; b) The other activities went on at the church at the Volcano, there were 70 people.

  • Please be praying for us because this Hurricane Felix will come with a lot of rain for El Salvador.  The alert is orange; the president suspended classes in all the Country.

  • The church in Santa Telca has outgrown its facilities and will begin construction a new worship shelter soon.  The church in Chalchuapa has purchased several plots of land and a church shelter will be built soon.

  • Jose' now has three young men in training that are working with him on a full-time basis.  Pray for the continued growth and financial support for this fast growing ministry.

History, by Jose' Rodriguez:

In March of 2005 I arrived in Santa Tecla anxious to work.  We had moved from our country of Panama to a small place in Central America called El Salvador.

My family and I moved to the city of Santa Tecla and began the work.  One of the first people we met was Esperanza, who was already a Christian.  She put us in contact with a friend, Manuel, who introduced us to a Samuel, who in turn introduced us to others.  It was in this way that we began to visit different people these first contacts knew  and we began to visit several neighborhoods in a door to door evangelism effort, teaching the doctrine of Christ.  Several of the people we visited began coming to services and before the end of March we had a regular attendance of 15 people in the first Christian church of Santa Tecla.  Now, at the end of the year, there have been several baptisms and even a group 7 brothers and sisters who have graduated from a leadership seminar that I have been giving them.

A few months after the work began, one of the brothers took me to a new town named Chalchuapa.  I really liked the place and I began an evangelistic effort there.  To my surprise, a community leader there who supposedly hated pastors and would not receive in his house any religious person, welcomed me into his home for a visit.  I talked to him about Jesus Christ and the Bible for several hours until he inquired of me if I had a place yet to hold church services in the community.  I responded that, no, I hadn’t, and he offered his home to hold those services.  At present, Don Tobias, his spouse, and a son have been baptized and he and his wife got married, trying to put things in their life in order.  When this second Christian Church in El Salvador was begun, we had a regular attendance of 25.

Around six weeks ago when we helped some families that were affected by Tropical Storm Stan, we meet the family of brother Pedro in Nuevo Cuscatlan, and shortly thereafter we began holding services there in an effort to teach doctrine to a group of people he was worshipping with at the time.  We began that in essence the third Christian Church in El Salvador, with 15 people.

In these first months of the work here we have had many trials.  Brother Manuel, one of our first contacts stole money from the church treasury and Samuel, another early leader, started getting drunk in public.  I was forced to discipline these brothers and neither of them accepted the discipline and instead tried to divide the church.  However, the church members knew the truth of what had happened and that they were at fault and rather than disintegrate, the church passed its test and grew.  This was a case where as the Bible says that some will be heralds of Good News for others, but in the end, they themselves will be lost. God has protected the church in this time and I am convince the church is advancing from victory to victory.

In spite of these trials and the culture here, which is different in many ways than others that I know in Latin America, the brothers and sisters here are moldable and I am teaching them the true love of Christ and His church.

At present, the Christian Church in Santa Tecla is averaging 95-100 for Sunday services.  Many have been baptized and a large number have changed their membership leaving false doctrines to become a part of our congregation and the Restoration Movement.  God has truly blessed us.

At present, the Christian Church of Chalchuapa averages about 110 people at its services.  There have been baptisms there and like the church in Santa Tecla, a large number have joined us from other church backgrounds.  We also have an organized youth group and a ladies group.  We even have been blessed to have hosted a medical brigade there with the help of Dr. Walter Garcia, a leader in the region of the government’s Health Department.  This brigade was done at no cost, and we were able to see 40 people that we were able to help with medicines.  This Brigade also left us with a medicine reserve, to be able to give follow up help, which to date has assisted an additional 150 people.

At present, the Christian Church in Nuevo Cuscatlan averages about 20 people.  There also, we have been able to baptize some new believers and have received some changes of membership in the two months this congregation has existed.

All told, the Christian Church in El Salvador now has between 225-230 people regularly attending services.  We have been invited to start another church on the edge of a volcano that recently erupted as well.  We hope to soon be able to start a training program for future ministers and/or lay ministers.  God has blessed us to be able to buy land in Chalchuapa for our own church building.  We give thanks to God, Lifeline Christian Mission, and the Christian Churches in the United States.  God is building his Kingdom in El Salvador and it looks to be a big work.
