2017: A summer of serving in Honduras

The mission teams who served in Honduras throughout the summer of 2017 planned and prepared for their trips.  They were excited.  They were nervous.  But they were not alone!  Through it all, God was invited to lead and direct their preparations, as He knew the joys, the obstacles, and the tears that they would encounter.  And through His leading, great things were done in His name for His glory.

You can catch of glimpse of the teams' joys and challenges from this summer’s adventures in Honduras…

Planting Seeds

One year ago, a sponsored child received his first gift package from his sponsor.  One of the items he received was a packet of seeds. The seeds were lovingly planted and watered and then carefully cared for as they grew.  This summer, when his sponsor visited for the first time, it was a precious sight when the sponsor was presented with a bouquet of flowers from those seeds!

It’s all for the kids

The kindergarteners and preschoolers at Ocotillo Christian School love their new classroom: two murals were painted and they have a new ceiling in their classroom!  The team’s long work days alongside the Honduran workers have resulted in a bright, cheerful classroom where learning has become more fun.

Take nothing for the journey … literally!

Their bags were packed and the mission team was ready: they had supplies for VBS, new mom/baby gifts, and gifts for the children at the church.  However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the team arrived in Honduras with only their carry-ons. Yet God provided in unexpected ways: crayons were left from a previous team, paper plates were perfect for a rainbow craft, and brown paper bags became elephant puppets.  But what wasn’t missing?  Love for the church and people of Honduras, along with the willingness to serve in whatever the Lord set before them.

Beyond our community borders

One team had the opportunity to share God’s love with the public school on the Meredon mountains.  The students heard a Bible lesson and had fun with crafts, games and snacks.  As a special treat, everyone – including the families – received a gift, such as dresses, shorts and shoes, which was a blessing for these families.  This was the first time one of our teams was able to share in a public school!

Another opportunity to serve outside our communities came at the public children's hospital in San Pedro Sula. The team shared a Bible story, snack and craft, while offering love and prayers to the children, families, and the staff.

And there was so much more…

The summer teams served God and the Honduran people tirelessly through sports programs, distributing new mom/baby gifts; house visits; community VBS programs; Bible studies for ladies, men and young moms; construction projects at our CaryHill campus; providing gifts and much needed supplies to the staff and pastors; serving at the Omoa children’s home; painting; and the list goes on!  And in all that was done, God’s love was shared in word or deed.

Although the mission trip is now a memory, we hope the experience didn’t end in Honduras.  We pray that God used this time to renew a passion to love Him deeper, to trust Him fully, and to serve Him wherever He calls…whether that is in your community or around the world.

You, too, can serve and experience God moving in another culture through a mission trip.  Take the first step...
