Growing and Learning Together!

Teachers: Claudette L. and Benitha D.
Class: First Grade
Region: Deuxième-Plaine

1st Grade class at Diexieme-PlaineHow has God shown up in your class?
[Claudette] The presence of God has manifested itself in my class through the way my students behave and cooperate with each other. They really appreciate when I read the Bible to them. They like to memorize verses and share them to other children in Sunday school.

[Benitha] God has shown up in my class through my teaching. My students are well-behaved and are eager to learn more about God. I also see that they are becoming more sociable and friendly with others.

What are some notable updates or activities that your class has been a part of? (i.e. holidays, celebrations, traditions)
Flag Day, Labor Day, Christmas, and recreation days.

What was the occasion and why is it important to your culture?
[Claudette] Flag Day is the national holiday in our country; we celebrate it on May 18. We sing and make little flags for the students to take home. Labor and Agriculture Day is when we organize fun classroom activities with our students. They dance and learn what different plants we have in our country; I also encourage them to take care of nature. For Christmas, the school staff organizes a party before sending the students home for their Christmas vacation. We do coloring, sing new Christmas carols, do crafts and other fun activities with them.

[Benitha] Flag Day is a big celebration for us. My students love making little flags and learning our flag's anthem. We are celebrating it on May 17-18 in our country. Recreation days are when we do fun activities to allow students to have fun. Christmas is celebrated before their Christmas holidays; we teach them new songs, dances and poems.

What is your favorite memory from this year so far? Something that made you laugh? Cry? Praise God?
[Claudette] My best memory so far this year is that one of my students went up front during Sunday school to say one of the verses she learned in class.

[Benitha] I was amazed to see the reaction of my students: When one did not have the money to buy a cookie, another one was happy to share his with him. I was happy to see the friendship between them.

What are some activities or events that you and your class are looking forward to?
We are looking forward to participating in recreation days, class soccer championship, and Flag Day.

Is there a Bible verse that your class has been studying? Or maybe a verse that God has put on your heart during this season? 1st Grade class at Diexieme-Plaine
[Claudette] We have been studying Romans 3:16. I love teaching them new verses and they love to learn them.

[Benitha] Yes! We have been studying Mathew 11:28.

Is there a student or parent that has stood out to you? How and why?
[Claudette] I have a parent, who came to my class to ask how his child is behaving because he always fights with other children in his neighborhood, but now he behaves well in school and he never gives problem in class.

[Benitha] I had a student who didn't like to read. He told me he didn't have anyone at home to help him. I had to call his parents to find someone who could help him with his homework. Now he's doing pretty well and doing his best in class.

What would you like to say to partners who are supporting the class and students?
[Claudette] Thank you for supporting my class and helping these students to have a good school where they can learn good things and can also learn more about our God. May you be blessed for your generosity to them and may God in his love keep you healthy for you to be able to continue doing this work for him.

[Benitha] Thank you for your wonderful support to my students. May God in his love continue to bless you for being so good to these students. We look forward to praying for you for God to keep you healthy and take care of your needs. We hope to see you in the future if possible.
