Growing and Learning Together!
Teachers: Etienne and Codnor
Class: Sixth Grade
Region: Deuxième-Plaine
How has God shown up in your class?
[Etienne] God has shown up in my class through the devotions we do every day in class. Students become more polite and respect others. They also enjoy singing Christian songs and discussing together what they have learned in devotions.
[Codnor] God has shown up in my class through the way I teach my students. They set good examples for other classes and they collaborate well with each other. They show respect to everyone in the school and love to read the Bible and ask questions about it.
What are some notable updates or activities that your class has been a part of? (i.e. holidays, celebrations, traditions)
Flag Day, celebrating their birthdays, recreation days, Christmas, and the 17th of November.
What was the occasion and why is it important to your culture?
[Etienne] May 18th is Flag Day in Haiti. We love to celebrate it because it is our pride as a nation. Depending on the day of the week that it lands on, we like to participate in the parade, wearing red and blue.
We love to celebrate our students' birthdays by singing songs and wishing them the best on this special day of their lives.
Recreation days are set up in our school so that students can enjoy the activities we do for them. They usually go out or participate in other fun activities that we do in school like crafts, learn new songs, games, and much more.
We celebrate Christmas with them to celebrate the birth of Christ. We usually do this before their Christmas holidays.
[Codnor] November 17th reminds us of the war heroes who fought for our independence. We commemorate this day by doing special lessons with the students.
May 18th is Flag Day which we celebrate, doing fun activities like making flags for children, participating in the parade in the city, doing poems, etc.
Recreation days are an opportunity that we create for students to have fun, doing crafts, going out, discussing a topic, and play games.
Christmas is celebrated before the holidays. We teach them new songs, dances and give them snacks before they go home.
What is your favorite memory from this year so far? Something that made you laugh? Cry? Praise God?
[Etienne] On my birthday my students sang a song for me and wrote me a wonderful note to encourage me and tell me how much they appreciate the way I teach. I was blessed because they were kind to me.
[Codnor] My favorite memory so far is of a student of mine who didn't take his studies seriously and failed the first exams and told me he would work hard next time to get good grades.
What are some activities or events that you and your class are looking forward to?
Participate in soccer games, Flag Day, recreation days, and Labor and Agriculture Day
Is there a Bible verse that your class has been studying? Or maybe a verse that God has put on your heart during this season?
[Etienne] We study a verse every week in class and we are currently studying 2 Timothy 3:15.
[Codnor] We have been studying John 3:16. In the coming weeks we look forward to learning more.
What would you like to say to partners who are supporting the class and students?
[Etienne] We are blessed to have you supporting my class and students. May God bless you for sharing His love with us. We look forward to praying for you and your families and if possible to meet you in the future. May the peace of God be with you.
[Codnor] Thank you very much for all you accomplish in the lives of my students by supporting them and also their class. Your work will not be in vain and God will surely reward you for your hard work. We look forward to continuing to pray for you and for the Lord's blessing to be with you.
