Growing and Learning Together!

Class: First Grade
Region: Grand-Goâve
How has God shown up in your class?
Darline: The presence of God has shown up in my class through the Bible study that we do with them every morning to become good disciples of Christ. We teach them how to behave and be kind to everyone.
Fabiola: The presence of God is shown up in my classroom when we do morning devotion with our students and teach them the word of God. I also see that they themselves have become friendly and sociable.
Denise: The presence of God is manifested in my class through the way my students behave. They respect me and they don't talk much in class. They enjoy learning new Christian songs and are eager to learn new Bible verses.
What are some notable updates or activities that your class has been a part of? (i.e. holidays, celebrations, traditions)
Flag Day, Christmas, reading contests, and an annual conference on risk and disaster.
What was the occasion and why is it important to your culture?
Flag Day is a big event for the whole school. This is important to us because the flag represents our freedom as a free nation. We participate in many activities, like coloring, coming to school in blue and red, and participating in the parade that we usually do at school and also in our city.
Christmas is celebrated in school before their vacation for the holidays. We learn new songs, dances and poems. It helps us remember the love that God has for humanity.
We have a reading competition usually run once a month to encourage them to gradually improve their reading capacity.
We have an organization that usually comes to do conferences with our students once a year on how to protect themselves and their families
during a disaster. What is your favorite memory from this year so far? Something that made you laugh? Cry? Praise God?
Darline: My favorite memory from this year so far is when my students returned to school after their Christmas vacation and they were all happy to see each other and sang praises to God for giving them the opportunity to come and learn in their beloved school.
Fabiola: I have a student who is very smart in my class and I was surprised how he helped another student say a word he couldn't say. I was happy because he wanted to help his classmate.
Denise: I have a student who did not understand a word in a verse that we were studying and he was not afraid to come to me to ask for an explanation. I was happy because my students have passion to learn the word of God.
What are some activities or events that you and your class are looking forward to?
Flag Day, playing soccer, Christmas, learning new poems, reading contests, and Labor and Agriculture Day.
Is there a Bible verse that your class has been studying? Or maybe a verse that God has put on your heart during this season?
Darline: We are studying Ephesians 6:1-2. We encourage them to respect their parents and other people. We look forward to learning many verses this year with our class.
Fabiola: We have been studying Genesis 1:11. We have been studying lots of verses in devotions we do in class with them. They have great passion to continue to learn more about the Bible.
Denise: I have been reading the book of Genesis to them. I have started with this book to remind them that they are created by God and that they are His children and that God made all things.
Is there a student or parent that has stood out to you? How and why?
Darline: I don't usually have problems in my class. The only problem we have sometimes is when some of them don't do their homework and I have to talk to them and ask them to do it. When their parents find this out, they discipline them; and this makes them unhappy. Now they all do their homework.
Denise: One of my students was saying bad words and I had to send him home to come back with his parent. He is behaving well now and respects others.
What would you like to say to partners who are supporting the class and students?
We want to say thank you for your wonderful support to our students. May God bless you for opening your hearts to help them progress in their schooling. We are tremendously blessed by you. We hope God will bless you for participating in Together Program to bless our school and students. We look forward to praying for you and for God to bless each one of you abundantly for your generosity to us. May God keep you healthy and continue to use you for the advancement of His Kingdom on earth. May the peace of God dwell in your hearts.
