Class: Second Grade
Region: Grand-Goâve
How has God shown up in your class?
Louise Marie: Through the Christian education they receive each morning in class from the Bible. It helps them behave well and respect me as their teacher. They are very friendly and cooperate well with other classes when we do activities for them. This is how I see the presence of God in my class.
Jacquelin: God has shown up in my class through the behavior of my students. Every once in a while I see big changes in their lives. They have respect for me and their classmates. They like to share what they have with those who don't. This is how I see the presence of the Lord in the class.
Jean Nevelson: God has shown up in my class through the devotions we do each morning. We teach them the word of God and what God is wanting from them. It helps them to be more polite and have respect for me and their classmates.
What are some notable updates or activities that your class has been a part of? (i.e. holidays, celebrations, traditions)
Flag Day, cleaning days , Christmas, and reading contests.
What was the occasion and why is it important to your culture?
Flag Day is an important event in our country and is celebrated on May 18th. We take the opportunity to celebrate it with our students to remind them that the flag is our pride and that we must respect it by applying the constitutional laws of our country. We do fun activities like coloring, making little flags and participating in the parade in our town.
Cleaning days are days that we have chosen throughout the year for students to clean their classroom and schoolyard, to teach them that they must take care of their environment.
A Christmas party is always organized before sending them home for their holidays. It helps us remember the love that God has for humanity. We do coloring, and learn new Christmas carols and poems.
We have a reading competition that we usually run once a month on Fridays to encourage them to gradually improve their reading skills.
What is your favorite memory from this year so far? Something that made you laugh? Cry? Praise God?
Louise Marie: My favorite memory from this year is seeing my students after their Christmas vacation. God protected them and didn't let any of us be affected by COVID-19.
Jacquelin: My favorite memory this year was when one of my students had a fever and before I sent him to the clinic he asked the class to pray for him. This made me happy to see the faith he has in God.
Jean Nevelson: I have two students who gave their lives to Christ and that made me happy.
What are some activities or events that you and your class are looking forward to?
Flag Day, Christmas, crafts, soccer with other classes and reading contests.
Is there a Bible verse that your class has been studying? Or maybe a verse that God has put on your heart during this season?
Louise Marie: We are studying the book of Genesis in the Bible to remind them that we were created by God, that we are His children and that we must obey His commands.
Jacquelin: We are studying Psalms 104:24. Our students have great passion for the word of God and I am always blessed to teach them more.
Jean Nevelson: We are studying John 3:16. It is a great opportunity in my class to share the word of God to my students.
Is there a student or parent that has stood out to you? How and why?
Louise Marie: One parent always calls me on the phone just to check if his child is behaving well in class and if he does his homework because last year his child was not behaving well. But now, the student is doing well and respecting everyone and that made his father happy.
