Growing and Learning Together!

Teachers: Louiser, Roberson, Junior Amos
Class: Fifth GradePicture of a 5th grade class at Grand Goave
Region: Grand-Goâve

How has God shown up in your class?

Louiser: God has shown up in my class through the way we behave in love and respect for each other. In my classroom, the students live in harmony and enjoy reading the Bible and singing Christian songs.

Roberson: God has shown up in my class through the Bible study that we do in class. The students take great pleasure in knowing more about God; the devotions have had a great impact in their physical and spiritual lives. I also see that they have become friendlier and that they respect others.

Junior Amos: The presence of God has shown up in my class through their behavior and the passion they have to learn more about God. When in class they live like brothers and sisters and are always ready to support each other. This is how I have seen the presence of God in class.

What are some notable updates or activities that your class has been a part of? (i.e. holidays, celebrations, traditions)

The Flag Day and Christmas.  Also, during the school holidays, the school gives opportunity for those who didn’t get good grades in certain subjects to come and participate in extra lessons, so that they can become better in these subjects.

What was the occasion and why is it important to your culture?

Flag Day is an important event in our country that we celebrate on May 18th. It is important to us because it represents our freedom as a country and it is our pride. To celebrate this occasion, we sing our national anthem and participate in the parade that we organize in our city.

A Christmas party is always organized before sending them home for their holidays. It helps us remember the love that God has for humanity. We learn new Christmas carols and poems.

What is your favorite memory from this year so far? Something that made you laugh? Cry? Praise God?

Louiser: My students have suggested some fun activities that they would like to do this year, namely Recreational Activities and Easter.

Roberson: When school opened in January, all the students came together to sing and praise God for allowing them to continue their school year. I was quite happy to see some of my students participate by singing songs in the devotion they had at chapel.

Junior Amos: One day I couldn't come because I wasn't feeling well and I was surprised after school that they all came to see me and prayed with me. It made me happy because they have shown that they care about me and appreciate me, their teacher.

We look forward to participating in Flag Day, Christmas, playing soccer, vocabulary contests, and craft activities.

Is there a Bible verse that your class has been studying? Or maybe a verse that God has put on your heart during this season?

Louiser: We have been studying many verses and look forward to learning more because they enjoy doing so. We are studying Psalms 40:18 this week.

Roberson: We have been studying Romans 3:16. We like to study the verses in the Bible in class with our students because it has helped our students to focus on God.

Junior Amos: We have been studying Romans 8:5.  We chose this verse to remind them that they should live in ways that please God and not in ways that pleases the world.

Is there a student or parent that has stood out to you? How and why?

Louiser: I have a student who likes to talk a lot in class and sometimes I have to tell him to be silent. Even though he always obeys my order, I think it's because of a habit he has and I need to help him stop doing it.

What would you like to say to partners who are supporting the class and students?

We pray that God will bless you for opening your hearts to support the Together Program. Thank you for giving our students the opportunity to progress in their schooling through your heartfelt support.  It will bless them in great ways. May God continue to use you to make an impact in the lives of His children. We pray that God will bless you and keep you safe during the pandemic in our world. We look forward to praying for you and your families each day of class.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for our students’ health and for the presence of God to be with us during this school year. Last year was not easy for our class due to the presence of COVID-19 and political unrest in the country; we want God to continue to protect us from the pandemic and make this year a success for us.
  • Please pray that our students will focus more on their schooling and have a strong ability to learn. We also want you to pray this year to be a blessing to all of us.
  • Please lift up our families in your prayers, for our health and to prosper in life.
  • Pray that our dear students will perform at their best in the class and to be more productive. Thank you.
