Growing and Learning Together!
Teachers: Frenel, Jean Rony, Jean Francisco
Class: Sixth Grade
Region: Grand-Goâve
How has God shown up in your class?
Frenel: Through the education they receive from the Bible, they have become very friendly and respect each other. I am fortunate to continue to teach them the word of God because it has had a great impact in their life and also in their environment.
Jean Rony: The presence of God has shown up in my class through the routine that we have each day of school: to pray and sing Christian songs and at the end to do our Bible study. When we do this, it helps students respect God and everyone, and it also sets good examples for other classes.
Jean Francisco: God has shown up through the devotions we do in class. It helps us to focus on God and to do our best to obey His commands. I have seen them become more socialized with other students from other classes and also set good examples.
What are some notable updates or activities that your class has been a part of? (i.e. holidays, celebrations, traditions)
We mainly participate in two notable celebrations which are Flag Day and Christmas.
What was the occasion and why is it important to your culture?
Flag Day is celebrated on May 18. It is an important event for us because it represents our freedom. We usually sing the national anthem and make little flags to wave while participating in the parade that we usually have in our town.
A Christmas party is always organized before sending them home for their holidays. It helps us remember the love that God has for humanity. We do coloring and learn new Christmas carols and poems.
What is your favorite memory from this year so far? Something that made you laugh? Cry? Praise God?
Frenel: During the lockdown in our country for the pandemic, my students were very scared and asked me to continue praying for them because the people in their homes do not respect the rules that the Minister of Health has given to keep everyone safe; but God was with us and he continues to protect us.
Jean Rony: During the reopening of the school, I was happy to see all my students because God has continued to protect us from the pandemic and they came to class by singing songs of praise to God and asking God to give them good understanding for this year. I was overwhelmed with joy in my heart to see their faith in God.
Jean Francisco: I was happy to see my students on the first day of school in January. I had one who led the songs and made me proud of my class because he was not shy to worship God.
What are some activities or events that you and your class are looking forward to?
Flag Day, soccer game, crafts.
Is there a Bible verse that your class has been studying? Or maybe a verse that God has put on your heart during this season?
Frenel: We have been studying Genesis 1:27. My students were amazed to know that they have the resemblance of God! We look forward to learning many more verses with them.
Jean Rony: We have been studying Deuteronomy 11:13. I love to teach them new verses because they love to learn more about God.
Jean Francisco: We have been studying a lot of verses together. This month we are studying Psalms 50:15. We love to study the word of God together.
Is there a student or parent that has stood out to you? How and why?
Frenel: I have a student who disagreed with me when we were talking about everyone being created by God and we have his likeness. He said that people who are ugly don't look like God because God is handsome. I told him that we are all his people and that we are all created by him and that no one is ugly in the sight of God.
What would you like to say to partners who are supporting the class and students?
We feel so blessed by your heartfelt support of our students. Your support means a lot to them and will encourage them to get good grades in the future. We look forward to praying for you and for God to bless you for this great opportunity you are giving to our students to progress in their schooling. We look forward to meeting you someday if possible and to spending good time together. May God bless you and give you good health for the wonderful work you are doing for him. May the peace of the Lord continue to dwell in your hearts.
