Growing and Learning Together!

Teachers: Kercy and Thelira
Class: Sixth Grade
Region: Léogâne

6th grade student at LeoganeHow has God shown up in your class?
[Kercy] By the devotion that God has shown in our class. I can see this from the way they behave at school with other students from different classes. They like to sing Christian songs and like to ask questions about things they don't understand in the Bible. They respect each other and set good examples for other classes.

[Therlira] God has shown up in my class through the behavior of my students. They are eager to learn more about God and always set good examples for other classes. Their friendship is strong and they are always ready to support each other.

What are some notable updates or activities that your class has been a part of? (i.e. holidays, celebrations, traditions)
[Kercy] Flag Day, and Labor and Agriculture Day.
[Thelira] Flag Day, Labor and Agriculture Day, Recreation Day, and Easter.

What was the occasion and why is it important to your culture?
[Kercy] Flag Day is on May 18th. It is important to us because it represents our freedom. We always celebrate it at school with our students; we take the time to participate in the parade in our city, and at school everyone wears red and blue. Labor and Agriculture Day is on May 1st.  We teach the students the importance of plants and how to care for them. We always encourage our older students to acquire professional skills so that they can find work and support themselves.

[Thelira] Flag Day is an important day in our country because the flag represents our nation and the freedom we have. We love to participate in school activities and also in the parade in our town. We celebrate Labor and Agriculture Day every first day of May; we take this opportunity to talk with them and to show how they contribute to the advancement of their community's economy. We celebrate Easter with our students to remind them of the sacrifices Jesus made on the cross for our sins. Recreation Day is usually held on a special occasion to allow students to have fun while they are in school. We usually do crafts, go to the beach, take a trip to visit somewhere, and many other activities.

What is your favorite memory from this year so far? Something that made you laugh? Cry? Praise God?
[Kercy] My class had a party to celebrate my birthday with me. I was not aware of this and it made me so happy to see how much they care and have me in their hearts.

[Thelira] I watched one of my students share the word of God with one of his classmates, and this made me happy that day because my students are no longer shy to share the word of God.

What are some activities or events that you and your class are looking forward to?
Soccer championship, Flag Day, Labor and Agriculture Day.

Is there a Bible verse that your class has been studying? Or maybe a verse that God has put on your heart during this season? 6th grade class at Leogane
[Kercy] We are studying Romans 10 verse 9. Every week we study a verse in class with our students and they really enjoy doing that.

[Thelira] I am studying John 3 verse 16 with them.

What would you like to say to partners who are supporting the class and students?
[Kercy] Thank you for opening your hearts to help my class. May God bless each of you. Your support will play an important role in the life of my students and will also help them to be more motivated in their schooling. We are happy to have you and cannot wait to meet you in the future.

[Thelira] Thank you for your heartfelt support to my class. May God continue to use you to make positive impacts in the life of these young students. We will continue to pray for you to be healthy and keep safe from harm. May the blessings of the Lord always be in your lives.

Prayer Requests:

Kercy

  • You can pray for my class that I will continue to have the ability to teach my class and to share God's love with them.
  • We want you to pray for our health.
  • Please also pray that this year will be a good school year for us. Last year due to the pandemic and the political turmoil my students have struggled to learn.
  • Pray for them that they will have the chance to have a good understanding and to be more productive in their schooling.

Thelira

  • I would like you to pray for me and my students so that God give us good health and keep us safe from harm.
  • I also want you to pray for my students to be more productive in their schooling and to have good understanding.
  • This will be their last year in our school and when they are over with this school year they will need to go somewhere else to continue their education. We want you to pray that God will continue to provide for their needs and for them to be able to continue their education.
