New Year, New Tools, New Expectations

My name is Nelly Flores. I teach kindergarten. This school year started with many doubts. I had to implement a new tool for virtual classes in the Google Classroom. I do not have much experience in technology. One of my colleagues in school, Valeria, helped me. My doubts and fears were gone because I realized that it is a straightforward and indispensable tool in this time of emergency.

Teaching a virtual class is not the same as a face-to-face class, where you can carry out some activities to integrate the child into their school environment. The students connect in their parents' company, and some of them do not want to do the works given by their teacher; most of them participate very actively in them.

We are just getting to know each other; this is when we get used to our names and learn the right way to treat our friends and teachers.

It is a different school year for me as a teacher, and for my small kids. It has led me to investigate much more in-depth techniques and strategies that will help me so that my class time is not dull or monotonous since being behind a screen tires the children. They get restless sometimes. It is a very enriching experience that will allow me to learn new ways to help the children relate to one another, be friends, play, and learn in this reality we are facing now.

• Wisdom to advance in this new year with all the new things we have to learn and to be able to connect to the kids.
