Callie's Adventure
Written by a mission trip participant.
If I could recommend how to instantly change your life, I would tell you to go on a Lifeline trip!
I felt called to go on a mission trip following one of the darkest seasons of my life. I didn't understand why He called me at this specific time, to this particular place, with these individuals. God answered prayer after prayer during the week I spent in Ocotillo, Honduras.
I saw the love of Jesus everywhere I looked. The faithfulness of the Lord’s people was everywhere.
During my mission trip, I witnessed the deep faith and love of the people in Honduras. Their dedication to their communities and their representation of Jesus' teachings were truly inspiring. The men, women, and children I met are making a real difference in the world, living and loving in ways that reflect Jesus' example.
Each morning we were greeted by a swarm of kids and their excited group hugs when we entered the school. One child told us that, “We don’t get visitors often, so when we do we are always happy, no matter who it is.”
My prayer is that Lifeline continues to impact these communities that desperately need the love of Christ.
When we observe the world’s poverty and brokenness, we often question why God doesn’t do something, but he has - He created you. He created us to make a difference in the world, to go share the gospel. If not us, then who?
On my flight home, I pulled out my journal and started writing:
“Why did God call me to this place?” It was to share the gospel and love of Jesus. And, it was the start of my redemption story.
The Lord showed me that He’s not done with me yet. Recently I have called out to the Lord, ‘God, I need you. Where are you?’ This week through the dozens of hugs I received, I felt my Savior embracing me saying, ‘Daughter, here I am. You can rest.’ For the first time in so long, there was pure abounding joy.
The Honduran people have taught me so much about what it looks like to live a Christian life. It’s been so evident through their welcoming arms, humility, generosity, and hospitality.
I pray I left an impact on those sweet kids. They will never know the way they changed my outlook on life and my relationship with Christ. I hope I can soon return, but until then, Honduras will forever have my heart.”
My “why” for this trip had been answered.
