COME ALONGSIDE LOCAL LEADERS TO SERVE
People on the streets of Cuba

Overview

Tucked into the foothills of the Andes mountains of South America, Quito is the modern, vibrant capital of Ecuador. The equator runs through this city, separating the Northern and Southern hemispheres, but the climate is typically cooler because of the altitude.

Llano Chico, one of Quito’s 65 parishes, is home to approximately 17,000 people. This young, expanding parish is under-equipped to provide the quality education and core services its residents need. Chronic malnutrition, high infant mortality rates, and domestic violence make life in Llano Chico even more difficult, especially for children and families. Despite these challenges, new urban development in Llano Chico is enticing more families to move into the area. Community leaders are searching for answers and are eager to work with Lifeline's local leaders to make a difference.

The ministry's heart is for the vulnerable and under-resourced children and families of the parish. The hope is to provide developmental and educational resources for children caught up in the “chaos” of poverty and domestic trauma. And especially for the women on the margins, it means providing opportunities for physical and financial safety, for continued learning, and for healthy communities where they can be heard and belong.

Number of team members

We intentionally take smaller team sizes for a better overall trip experience for the goers as well as the receivers. 10-15 team members is the ideal size, allowing the team to have a more personal experience as they interact with one another and with the community they are going to serve. A smaller team size also allows for deeper conversations and bonding experiences on the field. And this small size prevents the location we are visiting from being overwhelmed.

 8 days, 7 nights

Frequently Asked Questions Title
Where will I stay?
Teams stay at an apartment-style guest house with multiple bedrooms. It is furnished with a kitchen, bunk beds, electricity, running water, showers and modern restrooms.  Sheets, pillows and towels are provided. Ecuador uses the same electricity as the U.S. and Canada. Plugs are 2 pronged flat-type so US/Canadian travelers will not usually need a converter or adapter.

What will I eat?
Meals are prepared by team members at the apartment. Some meals may be in local restaurants. Everyone will serve on kitchen duty. Lifeline provides a menu and purchases all food. Instructions are given in the field as to the team members’ responsibilities. The only requirement is a willing heart.

Participants with food allergies or sensitivities are encouraged to bring their own food items to fill in as needed during the week. We are unable to accommodate food allergies, sensitivities, or preferences. Occasionally, we can purchase some gluten-free ingredients, but availability can vary.

What is the contribution schedule?
When is the deposit due?
The deposit for all Lifeline trips is $100, and it is due upon application.

When is the trip cost due?
50% of the balance is due 90 days before the trip.

Remaining balance is due 60 days before the trip.
