Overview
More than 200 years ago, enslaved people in Haiti revolted against their colonial rulers and established the world’s first Black republic. Along with this history comes a great sense of pride for the people of Haiti. The nation of Haiti shares the island, once called Hispaniola, with the Dominican Republic. It is a land that boasts the beauty of the Caribbean, but at times, one can also see the landscape of struggle.
Haiti has a history of rising above incredible obstacles. Obstacles have come through the strong arm of larger nations enforcing their will upon Haiti and also an internal fight from forces at work within the country. Some of the most visible obstacles in the last decade have been devastation through earthquakes and hurricanes, political tension and unrest, violent gang activity, and the pandemic. Haiti is a nation ripe for the flourishing of the Good News of Jesus!
